The Conspirator (2011)

Robert Redford directs with sober restraint, letting the tension build in hushed rooms and hard stares, while Robin Wright gives Mary Surratt a steely, heartbreaking dignity and James McAvoy turns her reluctant defender into the audience’s moral compass.
