What people think about Rabbit Without Ears
Rabbit Without Ears is the kind of romantic comedy that starts with a smirk and, almost against its own better judgment, earns a real heartbeat—turning a glossy Berlin tabloid world into a surprisingly warm story about growing up. Til Schweiger directs with a breezy, modern energy, letting the humor get a little naughty and a little chaotic while Nora Tschirner brings a sharp, grounded presence that keeps the film from floating away on charm alone. The vibe is flirty and fast, but it’s also quietly satisfying to watch a self-involved guy get knocked off his pedestal by a woman who remembers exactly who he used to be. It’s not for viewers who prefer squeaky-clean romance or minimal sexual content, but if you like your love stories with bite, banter, and an eventual soft landing, this one goes down easy.
Rabbit Without Ears is aiming for a glossy, crowd-pleasing rom-com redemption story: a sleazy tabloid guy gets knocked down a peg, does community service at a daycare, and slowly learns to be a real adult thanks to a woman he wronged. The problem is that it leans hard on broad, sometimes mean-spirited humor and a “jerk becomes lovable” arc that can feel smug rather than earned, especially if you’re sensitive to bullying played for laughs or romance built on humiliation and mixed signals. It’s also fairly sex-forward (nudity and explicit sexual talk), so if you want something more tender or subtle, this will likely feel a bit loud and lad-mag. Still, Nora Tschirner brings charm and bite, and if you enjoy brash German mainstream comedy with a sentimental finish, you may find it easier to go along with than the premise suggests.
