David Yates stages the Congo with painterly jungle grandeur and old-fashioned adventure sweep, then threads in romance and moral urgency without turning the film into a lecture. Alexander Skarsgård gives Tarzan a bruised, soulful physicality, while Christoph Waltz brings silky menace and Samuel L. Jackson adds spark and purpose as a man determined to expose injustice. It’s a glossy, muscular crowd-pleaser with real bite—though if you’re sensitive to brutal action and peril, know it doesn’t pull its punches.

The Legend of Tarzan wants to be a glossy, grown-up reboot that mixes jungle spectacle with a righteous anti-slavery adventure, and you can feel the cast straining to give it weight. The problem is it often plays like a talky, checklist studio product: the pacing drags, the plotting feels generic, and the big action beats are padded with CGI that looks more serviceable than thrilling. It also stumbles into awkward colonial optics that can make the “heroic return to Africa” framing feel uncomfortable rather than empowering.
