The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It (2007)
Cassie, a 13 year old Gothic girl, is trying to fit in at her new school. To entertain herself, she plays a series of pranks on the popular kids and her younger brother, Max. When she goes to a Halloween store looking for new tricks, she finds a little book called "The Evil Thing"
What people think about The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It
The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It is that rare family fright film that actually feels like Halloween: mischievous, moody, and just scary enough to make you lean closer without ever turning mean-spirited. Emily Osment makes Cassie a prickly-but-likable outsider you can root for, and the movie keeps things moving with brisk pacing, playful pranks, and a creeping sense that one bad decision could tip the night into real danger. Director Alex Zamm nails an R.L. Stine-style vibe—spooky shop, cursed object, and a creature that’s genuinely grotesque—while still keeping it accessible and fun for older kids and nostalgic adults. It’s not for very young or scare-sensitive viewers, but if you want a sanitized horror ride with real atmosphere and a satisfying jolt, this one delivers.
The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It is clearly aiming to be a gateway horror movie for families: spooky enough to feel like Halloween, but safe enough to keep the lights on and the gore off. The problem is it plays like a very familiar teen-kids-vs-monster template, with stock characters, predictable turns, and a few “sure, that works” solutions that feel more goofy than clever. If you’re hoping for sharp writing, real suspense, or a monster story that doesn’t telegraph its beats, you’ll likely find it thin and a bit too TV-movie. But if you want an easy, October-friendly scare with a satisfyingly creepy creature and a likable Emily Osment anchoring the chaos, it can still do the job—just don’t expect it to be smarter than its audience.
