Johnnie To and Nai-Hoi Yau turn surveillance into cinema: fluid camera-work, a cool, propulsive soundtrack, and a grounded attention to procedure that keeps the tension feeling earned rather than manufactured. Tony Leung Ka-fai and Simon Yam anchor it with performances that are all quiet control and coiled nerves, letting the suspense build in the spaces between words. If you want a 90-minute, no-fat cat-and-mouse crime film where the dread comes from how real it feels, this is a contemporary Hong Kong classic—though if you need big explosions and constant action, its measured, watchful vibe may not be your speed.
