Mr. Peabody & Sherman is the kind of family movie that feels like a sugar-rush of imagination—smart, brisk, and genuinely sweet beneath its whirlwind of time-travel chaos. It zips through history with a playful, anything-can-happen spirit, packing in jokes that land for kids while slipping in clever references and warm, parental-heartstring moments for adults. The animation is bright and expressive, and the 3D staging gives the adventure real pop without ever losing the story’s cozy center: the bond between an overachieving genius dog and the boy who just wants to belong. It’s not a quiet, reflective cartoon—it’s loud, fast, and occasionally a little rude in the PG way—but if you want a lively, good-natured ride that leaves you smiling, it’s an easy yes.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman is clearly aiming for a brisk, kid-friendly time-travel romp with a sweet father-son core and a “history is fun” message, and it does deliver a steady stream of colorful set pieces. The problem is it often plays like a checklist of eras rather than a story that builds momentum, with jokes that feel more loud than clever and characters that don’t have much spark beyond their basic roles. If you’re expecting the sharp eccentricity of the original cartoon or a tightly written adventure, this may feel generic and oddly busy at the same time. Still, younger kids who just want fast pacing, familiar historical gags, and mild action will probably have a perfectly decent time.
