Female Agents earns its place in the WWII canon by giving the resistance thriller a fresh charge: a mission-driven, all-woman team whose courage isn’t romanticized so much as tested, moment by moment, under occupied France’s unforgiving glare. Jean‑Paul Salomé keeps the film moving with the sleek momentum of a classic commando picture—train platforms, hospitals, back rooms, and shadowed streets shot with polished period detail—while Sophie Marceau anchors it with a steady, lived-in resolve that makes the heroics feel personal. The action is brisk and crowd-pleasing, the camaraderie lands, and the espionage beats have that satisfying click of plans improvised under pressure. It does get tough in places, with torture and wartime brutality that may be a hurdle if you want your history gentle, but if you’re on the fence and craving an entertaining, well-mounted resistance adventure, this one delivers.

Female Agents wants to be a rousing, crowd-pleasing tribute to women in the Resistance, mixing espionage thrills with a glossy WWII adventure vibe. The problem is it often plays like a greatest-hits compilation of war-movie clichés, with plot turns that feel more convenient than convincing, which can make the “based on real heroism” angle land as oddly romanticized. There are solid performances (Marceau in particular brings gravitas) and a few tense set pieces, but the tone can swing into pulpy, derivative territory and the violence/torture beats are harsher than the film’s slick surface suggests. If you’re after grounded historical realism or a fresh, nuanced take on SOE operations, this may frustrate you; if you can accept a melodramatic, mission-movie fantasy with style over authenticity, it might do the job.
