Religulous (2008)

Religulous is at its best when it turns a global tour of sacred places into a brisk, funny, brain-tickling conversation about why people believe what they believe—and what happens when those beliefs collide with modern life. Bill Maher’s style is unapologetically provocative, but the film’s real engine is the parade of candid interviews, where earnest conviction, surprising contradictions, and occasional absurdity surface without needing heavy narration to make the point. Larry Charles keeps the vibe nimble and mischievous, balancing stand-up bite with documentary curiosity so it plays like a comedy with a live wire running through it.
