Topher Grace makes Matt’s aimless-smart-kid panic feel human instead of smug, while Anna Faris and Dan Fogler turn sibling chaos and best-friend bravado into the movie’s warm, lived-in heartbeat. The vibe is neon, music-and-mischief fun with a surprisingly sincere undercurrent about growing up—less about being cool than about finally taking a swing at your own life. Fair warning: it’s raunchy and heavy on drugs and profanity, but if you can roll with that, it’s an amiable, charming crowd-pleaser that goes down easy and leaves you oddly happy.

Take Me Home Tonight is clearly aiming for a glossy, John Hughes-style “one wild night changes everything” coming-of-age rom-com, wrapped in 1988 nostalgia and big, chaotic party energy. The problem is it often feels like it’s borrowing the vibe rather than earning it, with jokes and plot beats that play familiar and a little too safe to really pop. If you’re sensitive to heavy profanity and casual drug humor, or you want a sharper, more emotionally grounded romance, this may test your patience.
