Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)

Blood: The Last Vampire is the kind of sleek, midnight-cool genre mashup that wins you over on sheer attitude—part samurai revenge tale, part vampire nightmare, all wrapped in a stylish 1970s Tokyo-on-an-American-base atmosphere. Gianna Jun has a magnetic, silent-warrior presence, selling Saya as both lethal and lonely, and the film wisely lets her physical commitment do the talking when the blades come out. Chris Nahon stages the action with a crisp, graphic punch and a moody, good-looking sheen that makes even familiar horror beats feel like they belong in their own dark little universe. Be warned: it’s unapologetically bloody and not especially interested in subtlety, but if you want a fast, atmospheric vampire hunt with real bite, it’s a satisfying ride.
