P2 (2007)

P2 takes one of the most everyday places imaginable—a sterile, echoing parking garage—and turns it into a tight, nerve-clenching pressure cooker, the kind of thriller that works because it feels uncomfortably plausible. Franck Khalfoun keeps things lean and atmospheric, letting fluorescent lights, security cameras, and long concrete corridors do as much storytelling as the dialogue, while Rachel Nichols gives the film its backbone with a performance that’s smart, scrappy, and steadily more fierce. Wes Bentley’s security guard is chilling not because he’s supernatural, but because he’s human in the worst way, and the movie’s gritty realism makes every close call land with a thud. It’s not for everyone—this is a hard R with brutal violence and a stalking-captivity premise—but if you want a well-made, minimalist thriller that never lets you breathe, P2 is a nasty little Christmas present worth unwrapping.

P2 is aiming for a tight, claustrophobic Christmas-Eve cat-and-mouse thriller: one location, one predator, one woman forced to fight her way out. The problem is it leans hard on familiar captivity-horror beats and shock violence, so the tension often feels manufactured rather than genuinely nerve-shredding, and the plot can come off as a checklist of escalating cruelties. If you’re sensitive to stalking/abduction themes, implied sexual violation, and nasty gore (including animal violence), this isn’t a “fun thriller” so much as an endurance test. That said, Rachel Nichols commits to the role and the parking-garage setting has a grimy, contained energy that might work for viewers who mainly want a mean-spirited, straightforward survival horror ride.
