Bratz (2007)

Bratz is a candy-colored burst of pop energy that knows exactly what it wants to be: a live-action teen fantasia where friendship, style, and self-expression are treated like superpowers. The movie’s bright, playful look and upbeat musical vibe make it easy to sink into, and its multicultural cast gives the feel-good message real warmth instead of just slogans. Beneath the glitter, it’s genuinely cheering for kids who don’t fit neatly into a single box, pushing back on clique rules with a light touch and a big heart. It won’t convert you if you can’t stand bubbly, doll-inspired sparkle, but if you’re even slightly in the mood for a sweet, PG confidence boost, it delivers.

Bratz is clearly trying to be a bright, poppy teen musical about friendship surviving high school labels, with a simple “be yourself” message aimed squarely at younger viewers and fans of the dolls. The problem is it often feels like a loud, brand-first commercial wrapped in a very familiar clique-villain storyline, with jokes and drama dialed up so far they can start to feel shrill instead of funny. If you’re allergic to cliché teen-movie plotting, exaggerated characters, and glossy “message” moments that don’t always match the movie’s own obsession with image, this will test your patience. On the plus side, the cast has energy, the outfits and music-video styling are exactly what some kids want, and it’s harmless PG fun if you treat it as sugary, disposable escapism rather than a smart satire.
