Cougar Club (2007)
When Spence and Hogan graduate from college, life is bleak. They have to work for heinous divorce lawyers that torture them with gruesome jobs. Spence has a girlfriend from hell, and Hogan just wants to start his life. As luck would have it, these two young men are presented with an opportunity, and develop a club of young men devoted to older women, whom they call “Cougars.”
What people think about Cougar Club
Cougar Club is the kind of raunchy, shamelessly silly comedy that knows exactly what it is: a “guilty pleasure” built on a cheeky premise and the comic misery of two new grads discovering adulthood is basically indentured servitude with a tie. The fun comes less from sophistication than from momentum—awkward hookups, escalating schemes, and the way Jason Jurman and Warren Kole play their desperation like a two-man panic attack, while Joe Mantegna adds a welcome dose of grown-up bite. It’s cheesy, loud, and proudly inappropriate, with an R-rated appetite for crude jokes and sexual farce that keeps the tone light even when the characters’ lives are a mess. If you want subtlety or romance, look elsewhere—but if you’re in the mood for an unapologetically dirty, high-concept comedy that commits to its ridiculousness, this one goes down easy.
Cougar Club is aiming for a raunchy, post-college sex comedy about two guys weaponizing their bad luck into a “dating service” for older women, and it clearly wants to be a cheeky, taboo-busting romp. The problem is it leans hard on crude gags, repetitive sex talk, and a smug, juvenile tone that can feel more like a string of sketches than a real story with characters you’d root for. If you’re not already in the mood for R-rated sleaze, broad stereotypes, and “shock value” humor doing most of the heavy lifting, this will probably feel like a long night with someone who won’t stop telling the same dirty joke. On the upside, there are a few moments of committed performances (Joe Mantegna brings some much-needed presence), but don’t expect clever satire or anything resembling subtlety.
