We Own the Night (2007)

It’s not a twisty, intricate mob puzzle, but if you want an intense, performance-driven thriller that takes its stakes seriously, this one hits with real force.

We Own the Night wants to be a gritty, old-school New York crime thriller about family loyalty colliding with the Russian mob, and you can feel it reaching for that classic cop-versus-underworld intensity. The problem is the characters often come off thin and familiar, with dialogue that leans on crime-movie clichés instead of earning its emotions, and the plot can feel a bit rickety as it lurches from set piece to set piece.
