Furry Vengeance (2010)

Furry Vengeance is the kind of family comedy that commits—fully and shamelessly—to old-school slapstick, turning a pristine Oregon forest into a mischievous battleground where the animals always seem one step ahead. Brendan Fraser is an easygoing, game leading man, willing to look ridiculous for a laugh, and the movie’s best moments come from watching his slick developer persona get steadily undone by increasingly elaborate “furry” payback. The vibe is broad, bouncy, and a little rude in that PG way, with bathroom gags, pratfalls, and cartoonish chaos wrapped around a simple, upbeat eco-message. If you prefer subtle humor, this may feel too loud and silly—but if you’re in the mood for a light, kid-friendly romp where comeuppance is the main course, it’s a pleasantly goofy way to spend 90 minutes.

Furry Vengeance is clearly aiming for a kid-friendly, anti-greed, save-the-forest romp where the animals “fight back” and the bad guy learns a lesson. The problem is it mostly plays as a long string of repetitive, mean-spirited slapstick aimed at humiliating Brendan Fraser, with pacing that drags and effects that can look pretty cheap even by family-comedy standards. If you’re sensitive to constant bathroom gags and cartoonish comeuppance that never really evolves into smarter jokes, this will feel like a one-note sketch stretched to feature length. On the plus side, Fraser stays game, the rating is mild, and very young kids who just want noisy critter chaos may be perfectly content.
