Postal (2007)

Postal is the kind of cinematic dare that almost no studio would greenlight: a gleefully tasteless, anything-goes satire that barrels from dead-end desperation to full-blown theme-park warzone with the confidence of a prank pulled in broad daylight. Uwe Boll leans into the video-game spirit—loud, chaotic, and proudly juvenile—while Zack Ward’s committed straight-man energy and Dave Foley’s cult-leader sleaze give the madness a weirdly watchable spine. If you can stomach the relentlessly crude humor and extreme, offensive provocations, there’s an undeniably anarchic fun in watching the film keep topping itself, turning every scene into a bigger, dumber escalation. It’s absolutely not for the easily shocked (or anyone tired of shock for shock’s sake), but for viewers in the mood for a reckless, taboo-poking midnight movie, it’s one of Boll’s more perversely entertaining swings.

Postal is trying to be an anything-goes, video-game-style satire where every target is fair game and the story is really just a delivery system for escalating chaos. The problem is that Uwe Boll leans so hard on shock value—9/11 jokes, racial and religious slurs, graphic sex and gore—that whatever “point” it aims for gets buried under noise, cheap gross-out gags, and sloppy filmmaking. If you’re looking for clever political comedy, coherent action, or even a consistent tone, this will feel like being trapped with someone who won’t stop yelling for attention. The only people likely to have a good time are die-hard fans of the Postal games or viewers who genuinely enjoy boundary-pushing trash cinema and can laugh at material that most will find aggressively tasteless.
