The problem is the drama often feels shouted rather than earned, with characters behaving like chess pieces in a melodramatic spiral that can come off emotionally ridiculous if you’re not on its wavelength. It’s also punishingly intense: graphic violence, sexualized costuming, and a stew of betrayal and taboo themes that can feel more exhausting than cathartic. If you want coherent character-driven intrigue, you may leave cold, but if you’re here for jaw-dropping sets, color, choreography, and big star power in full theatrical mode, it delivers that in spades.
