Underdog (2007)

Underdog is the kind of earnest, sugar-rush family movie that knows exactly what it is: a bright, breezy superhero romp where the cape belongs to a beagle with a big heart and bigger surprises. The charm comes less from reinventing the genre and more from leaning into it—colorful action, goofy jokes, and a sweet bond between boy and dog that gives the spectacle a warm center. Jason Lee’s voice work makes Shoeshine lovable, and Peter Dinklage clearly enjoys playing the deliciously over-the-top villain, keeping the tone light even when the stakes get comic-book loud. It’s not for viewers hunting for sharp satire or sophisticated storytelling, but if you want an inoffensive, kid-friendly adventure that feels like a Saturday-matinee come to life, it’s an easy, feel-good pick.
