Richard Eyre’s direction and the razor-clean script make the tension feel almost conversational, as if every polite exchange is also a duel, and the film’s dark, intimate vibe lingers long after the credits. It’s not a comfortable watch given its taboo central relationship and the way it stares unblinkingly at obsession, but if you want a grown-up drama that plays like a psychological thriller with two titans at the top of their game, this is absolutely worth your time.
