Mads Mikkelsen is terrific in a performance full of restraint and ache, surrounded by a cast that makes every glance and pause land like a confession, while the script keeps tightening its grip without resorting to cheap twists. It’s not for viewers looking for light escapism—this one sits with messy emotions and adult complications—but if you want a film that leaves you shaken, satisfied, and thinking about what family really means, it’s absolutely worth your time.

The problem is the film can push so hard for impact that it tips into melodrama, with plotting that sometimes feels engineered rather than organically devastating. Visually, the handheld camerawork, frantic cutting, and extreme close-ups can come off as intense and immersive or just plain exhausting, depending on your tolerance for that Dogme-adjacent style.
