Zach Helm’s toy-store wonderland is warmly imagined without turning into visual noise, giving Dustin Hoffman room to be delightfully eccentric and unexpectedly tender, while Natalie Portman grounds the whimsy with a very human portrait of self-doubt and creative blockage. The vibe is gentle, funny, and quietly poignant, with a soft undercurrent about change and letting go that lands more like a hug than a lecture. If you’re looking for big action or razor-edged comedy, this may feel too sweet, but if you want a charming, sincere film that leaves you a little lighter than it found you, it’s a lovely bet.
