Black Christmas (2006)
As the residents of sorority house Pi Kappa Sigma prepare for the festive season, a stranger begins a series of obscene phone calls with dubious intentions...
What people think about Black Christmas
Black Christmas (2006) is the kind of holiday horror that hangs tinsel on the blade and then gleefully swings it—loud, lurid, and unapologetically over-the-top. Glen Morgan leans into a candy-cane-colored nightmare of twinkling lights, snowy dread, and a sorority-house pressure cooker, delivering slick, high-energy set pieces that feel like a mean-spirited Christmas card signed in blood. The kills are inventive and the gore effects are proudly excessive, but what really sells it is the campy confidence: it doesn’t tiptoe around its own bad taste, it struts. Fair warning, though—this one is for seasoned slasher fans only, because it’s intensely graphic and includes deeply disturbing sexual material; if you can handle that, it’s a nasty little seasonal thrill ride that commits to its wicked vibe.
Black Christmas (2006) is clearly trying to be a nastier, louder holiday slasher with a soap-opera backstory and a steady stream of kills instead of the original’s slow-burn dread. The problem is it trades mystery and tension for messy exposition, thin characters, and gore that feels more like a blunt instrument than a payoff, so the pacing lurches between “here’s another gross-out” and “wait, why should I care?” If you’re sensitive to extreme content—especially sexual violence/incest implications and explicit injury—this is an easy skip. But if you just want a trashy, mean-spirited Christmas horror watch with some gnarly practical effects and don’t care about logic or suspense, it might hit the exact wrong-note right.
