Sandberg balances bright fantasy spectacle with grounded emotion, letting the comedy land not as snark but as pure, wish-fulfillment delight, and Zachary Levi sells every wide-eyed beat with infectious charm. The vibe is breezy and family-friendly without feeling weightless, with Mark Strong providing a solid, old-school villain presence to keep the stakes from floating away. If you prefer your capes grim and brooding, this may feel a little too sunny—but if you want a superhero movie that’s genuinely fun and kind-hearted, it’s a terrific time.

“Shazam!” is clearly aiming for a lighter, kid-at-heart superhero romp—more wish-fulfillment and found-family warmth than gritty world-saving—and when it’s leaning into that, it can be genuinely charming.
