What people think about Fanaa
Fanaa is the kind of sweeping Bollywood romance that doesn’t stay in one emotional lane: it seduces you with charm and music, then tightens into a pulse-quickening thriller without losing its aching heart. Aamir Khan and Kajol are simply magnetic together, turning flirtation into something tender and dangerous, while the film’s polished visuals make Delhi’s bustle and Kashmir’s stark beauty feel like characters in their own right. Kunal Kohli directs with a crowd-pleasing sense of scale—big feelings, big turns, and the kind of sustained drama that’s designed to leave you breathless. If you’re allergic to melodrama, it may feel larger than life, but if you want an unabashedly emotional love story with real suspense in its bloodstream, Fanaa delivers.
Fanaa is trying to be a sweeping Bollywood love story that suddenly grows teeth, pivoting into a high-stakes political thriller with big emotions and bigger moral dilemmas. The problem is the screenplay can feel like it’s yanking you between genres rather than guiding you there, so the tonal shift lands abrupt, the pacing drags, and the long runtime starts to show. A lot of the major turns are easy to see coming, which blunts the suspense even when the stakes are supposed to be sky-high. Still, if you’re here for Aamir Khan and Kajol’s star power, glossy songs, and melodrama that doesn’t mind getting heavy-handed, you may forgive the clunky construction—if you want a tight, coherent thriller, this probably isn’t it.
