Tarzan II (2005)

Tarzan II is a surprisingly heartfelt little detour in Disney’s jungle mythos, built around a universal childhood fear: the worry that you’re the “problem” in the family and everyone would be better off without you. It keeps the tone light and adventurous—plenty of vine-swinging energy, mild peril, and slapstick—while letting its warm themes of identity and belonging land with real sincerity, helped along by a fun voice turn from George Carlin. The animation and overall polish are stronger than you might expect from a direct-to-video sequel, and the story has an easy, bedtime-movie flow that makes it an inviting family watch. If you’re looking for the epic sweep and musical punch of the original, this isn’t that, but if you want a sweet, well-made character chapter that earns its feelings, it’s an easy yes.

Tarzan II is clearly trying to give younger kids a gentler “finding your place in the family” story, with a smaller scale and a new comedic side character to carry the middle stretch. The problem is it often feels like a padded, low-stakes detour from the original: the plot is basic, the humor leans kiddie, and adults may find the whole thing a bit tiresome rather than charming. That said, it’s harmless, easy to follow, and George Carlin brings some welcome personality to an otherwise routine sequel. If you’re hoping for the emotional punch, music, and ambition of Disney’s Tarzan, this isn’t it—but if you just need a safe, short-ish jungle cartoon for little ones, it’ll do the job.
