Stoned (2005)

Stoned is less a tidy rock biopic than a smoky, elegiac plunge into the last, lonely stretch of Brian Jones’s life, capturing the 1960s not as nostalgia but as a beautiful, bruised atmosphere you can almost breathe in. Stephen Woolley’s film luxuriates in authentic period texture and a moody visual style, while Leo Gregory gives Jones a haunted volatility that keeps the screen alive, with Paddy Considine and especially David Morrissey grounding the story’s human friction. The tone is languid, decadent, and quietly ominous, circling the mystery of Jones’s death with a noir-ish sensibility rather than courtroom certainty. It won’t be for viewers seeking a definitive history lesson or a celebratory Stones romp, but if you’re drawn to character-driven tragedy and the seduction-and-rot of fame, it’s an absorbing watch.
