Big Momma's House 2 (2006)

Big Momma’s House 2 works because Martin Lawrence doesn’t just wear the suit—he commits to the character with a big, physical, crowd-pleasing energy that turns every hallway, kitchen, and PTA-style encounter into a playground for comedy. The movie leans into a breezy, family-friendly vibe where the undercover-crime setup is really an excuse for Big Momma to crash an uptight household and, amid the chaos, nudge everyone toward something warmer and more connected. There are mild thrills and a few tense moments, but the tone stays light, with jokes rooted in disguise-driven awkwardness and Lawrence’s sly Southern-granny swagger. It won’t convert you if you don’t enjoy broad, silly comedies, but if you’re on the fence and want easy laughs with a surprisingly soft center, this one goes down smooth.

Big Momma’s House 2 is clearly trying to be an easy, broad crowd-pleaser: a goofy undercover setup mixed with family chaos and a light crime plot you don’t have to think too hard about. The problem is it plays like a rerun of the first movie with louder, cruder gags and a very episodic “skit-to-skit” structure, so the comedy often feels forced rather than earned.
