Shane Meadows shoots the English countryside with a gritty, lived-in naturalism that makes every quiet moment feel like a held breath, and when the violence comes it lands with a sickening, purposeful weight. Paddy Considine gives a performance of frightening control—calm, coiled, and heartbreakingly wounded—while the camera stays close enough to make you feel complicit in the tension. It’s not a comfort watch and it doesn’t soften its ugliness, but if you want a film that’s intense, atmospheric, and emotionally devastating in the best sense, this one sticks to your ribs.
