Martian Child (2007)

John Cusack plays a widowed sci-fi writer with quiet, lived-in ache, and Bobby Coleman is a small marvel as the boy who insists he’s from Mars—funny, frustrating, and heartbreakingly sincere in ways that feel less like a gimmick and more like a child’s survival language. The film’s tone is gentle and human, carried by an attentive supporting cast and a few pleasantly unexpected turns that keep it from becoming a simple “lesson” movie.
