Minotaur (2006)

Minotaur earns its keep by treating pulpy myth like a real, lived-in nightmare, with gritty Iron Age atmosphere and production design that feels far richer than you’d expect from a mid-2000s genre outing. It’s the kind of adventure-horror that moves with confident momentum, letting shadowy corridors, torchlight, and a satisfyingly tactile creature design do a lot of the storytelling. The film leans into practical effects and moody cinematography to create a claustrophobic, dungeon-crawl vibe that’s more fun and watchable than its reputation might suggest. It’s not a prestige reinvention of the legend, but if you want a competent, above-average monster movie with solid visuals and a surprisingly sturdy sense of place, this is an easy, satisfying diversion.
