Watchmen (2009)

Watchmen is clearly trying to be a serious, adult-minded superhero deconstruction—more crime mystery than crowd-pleasing comic-book romp—and it commits to that grim alternate-history vibe with real conviction. The problem is that Zack Snyder’s ultra-faithful, slow-burn approach can feel like you’re watching an expensive museum exhibit: impressive to look at, but emotionally chilly and occasionally bogged down by heavy narration and dense plotting. It’s also brutally graphic and bleak, with violence and sexual content that aren’t just “edgy,” they’re meant to unsettle—so if you want fun escapism or a clean hero journey, this will feel punishing.
