The New World (2005)

The New World is the rare historical romance that feels less like a story being told to you than a dream you’re allowed to step inside, where light, water, and wind carry as much meaning as dialogue. Terrence Malick turns the early collision between English settlers and Native Americans into a visionary, aching meditation on wonder, desire, and the cost of “discovery,” captured in images so stunning they seem to rewrite what a period film can look and feel like.
