Meet the Robinsons (2007)
Lewis, a brilliant young inventor, is keen on creating a time machine to find his mother, who abandoned him in an orphanage. Things take a turn when he meets Wilbur Robinson and his family.
What people think about Meet the Robinsons
Meet the Robinsons is that rare family sci-fi comedy that feels like a sugar-rush of imagination and a sincere pep talk at the same time, bursting with inventions, time-travel mayhem, and a future so joyfully weird you’ll want to pause just to admire the details. It’s fast, funny, and proudly eccentric, but what really sneaks up on you is its big-hearted understanding of loneliness and belonging, turning a kid’s fear of failure into something brave and buoyant. The movie’s motto—“Keep Moving Forward”—isn’t delivered as a lecture; it’s earned through chaos, warmth, and a surprisingly tender emotional engine. It can get a little intense for very young viewers (a menacing robot hat and some peril), and its hyperactive energy won’t be everyone’s flavor, but if you’re on the fence, this is a clever, uplifting ride that leaves you lighter than it found you.
Meet the Robinsons is clearly trying to be a big-hearted, fast-paced time-travel comedy about finding your place and pushing forward after rejection, and the message genuinely lands for a lot of people. The problem is it rarely slows down long enough to breathe, with hyperactive pacing, noisy set pieces, and a “throw everything at the screen” energy that can feel more exhausting than charming. If you’re sensitive to chaotic editing, odd character designs, or kid-movie intensity (including a menacing robotic hat and some surprisingly dark emotional beats), this may not be your family-night slam dunk. Still, there’s real warmth underneath the mayhem, a few inventive sci-fi gags, and an earnest emotional core that can make it worth it if you can ride the whirlwind.
