Charlize Theron is fierce without ever chasing heroics, Frances McDormand brings aching, lived-in grace, and Woody Harrelson gives the story a needed steadiness as the fight becomes bigger than one person. It’s not an easy watch—sexual harassment and abuse are depicted frankly—but if you want a serious, emotionally powerful film that leaves you angry for the right reasons and moved by the courage it takes to demand change, this one earns your time.

North Country is clearly trying to turn a landmark workplace-harassment case into a mainstream, fist-clenching drama about dignity, solidarity, and finally being believed, and that intention is admirable. The problem is it often leans on big, pre-packaged emotional beats and a somewhat schematic courtroom build that can make the story feel more engineered than lived-in, especially if you’re hoping for nuance over catharsis.
