The Pacifier (2005)

What makes The Pacifier such an easy yes is the sheer pleasure of watching Vin Diesel weaponize his tough-guy persona for laughs, turning a Navy SEAL’s no-nonsense competence into a surprisingly warm, kid-proofing kind of heroism. It’s a goofy, high-energy family comedy with just enough action to keep things moving, and it leans on an ensemble that knows how to sell both the chaos of five kids and the sweetness underneath it. The vibe is broad and bouncy—more pratfalls and fish-out-of-water gags than hard-edged thrills—so don’t come expecting gritty realism, but if you want a light, crowd-pleasing diversion that can entertain kids and still get a few chuckles out of adults, it delivers. Beneath the silliness, it also sneaks in a sincere note about grief and found-family bonding, which gives the mayhem a little heart.

The Pacifier is clearly trying to be a light, kid-friendly “tough guy learns to care” comedy with a little spy-action frosting, and on that level it’s harmless enough. The problem is it plays like a checklist of noisy, familiar gags and contrived heartwarming beats, with Vin Diesel often looking like he’s waiting for the real movie to start.
