Three (2005)
After a yachting accident, a millionaire and his wife are shipwrecked on a desert island along with their former deckhand, Manuel.
What people think about Three
Three is the kind of sun-drenched survival thriller that knows exactly what it’s selling: a gorgeous tropical setting, a tight three-person pressure cooker, and the slow, simmering unease of desire turning into danger. Stewart Raffill stages the island not as paradise but as a seductive trap, where every wave and sunset feels like it’s conspiring to strip away civility and expose raw impulse. Billy Zane brings a brittle edge to privilege under stress, Juan Pablo Di Pace supplies youthful volatility, and Kelly Brook’s screen presence anchors the film’s erotic charge without losing the sense that something darker is always circling. It’s pulpy, glossy, and unapologetically R-rated—so if you’re looking for subtle psychological realism, this isn’t it, but if you want lean, escapist tension with a taboo bite, it’s an easy watch to get swept up in.
Three is clearly aiming for a sweaty, survival-on-a-desert-island thriller where a love triangle turns into a pressure cooker of jealousy and power. The problem is it often feels less like escalating suspense and more like the script pushing people into implausible choices just to force “shocking” turns, with a tone that wobbles between steamy melodrama and grim violence. A lot of the film’s attention goes to nudity and sexual tension in a way that can read as exploitative rather than insightful, so if you’re hoping for smart psychological drama or a credible survival story, you may end up irritated. On the plus side, the tropical setting looks decent and the premise has pulpy potential, but this is one to skip if you want believable characters, consistent tension, or anything resembling emotional depth.
