Elvis Has Left the Building (2004)
Harmony had an encounter early in life with the young Elvis, and can't seem to shake his influence. Now a Pink Lady selling cosmetics, she seems to inadvertently bring harm to any Elvis impersonators she encounters. After a bizarre car accident leaves a slew of them dead, Harmony goes on the run from the authorities, hooking up with a downtrodden ad exec who has Elvis troubles of his own.
What people think about Elvis Has Left the Building
Elvis Has Left the Building is the kind of offbeat comedy that sneaks up on you: a sun-baked, slightly surreal road trip where Elvis impersonators aren’t just a gimmick, they’re the movie’s wonderfully absurd heartbeat. Kim Basinger plays Harmony with a straight-faced sincerity that makes the wackiness land, turning a bizarre string of mishaps into something oddly charming and surprisingly watchable. The tone is light, silly, and knowingly ridiculous, the sort of film that keeps tossing curveballs and trusting you to laugh at the sheer nerve of it. It’s not aiming for profundity, and if you don’t enjoy broad, quirky humor, it may not convert you—but if you’re in the mood for a fun, eccentric romp with a peculiar little sparkle, it’s a delightful surprise.
Elvis Has Left the Building is clearly aiming for a quirky, offbeat comedy built around the absurdity of Elvis impersonators and a woman who seems cursed to cross their paths. The problem is the script rarely turns that premise into real laughs, leaning on strained coincidences and gags that land with a thud, so the whole thing feels oddly flat for something this weird. If you’re expecting sharp comedy, memorable characters, or a family-friendly crowd-pleaser, this will likely feel like a forgettable slog. Still, if you have a soft spot for low-budget oddities and can enjoy the sheer silliness of the setup without demanding much payoff, you might find it mildly diverting in short bursts.
