Michael B. Jordan gives Guy Montag a restless humanity that makes his awakening feel urgent, while Michael Shannon’s Captain Beatty radiates the kind of calm menace you can’t look away from. It’s not the most faithful or subtle adaptation, and some of its ideas are delivered with a blunt-force intensity, but if you want a smart, stylish dystopian thriller that feels uncomfortably current, this one burns bright.
