RRRrrrr!!! (2004)
In 35,000 BC, the tribe of the Dirty Hairs is at war against the tribe of the Clean Hairs for eight hundred years, trying to get their shampoo. The chief of the Dirty Hairs sends his daughter Guy disguised to the enemy tribe to get some shampoo for his tribe. When the healer of the Clean Hairs tribe surprisingly kills two cavemen of his tribe, their imbecile chief assigns Pierre with curled hair and Pierre blonde to investigate the murder and find the criminal.
What people think about RRRrrrr!!!
What makes RRRrrrr!!! special is its commitment to pure, prehistoric absurdity—an all-in, deadpan French farce where the most trivial modern anxieties (yes, shampoo) become the stuff of epic tribal warfare. Alain Chabat stages the Stone Age like a playground for silliness, letting sight gags, ridiculous character logic, and perfectly serious performances collide until the whole thing feels like a cult sketch stretched into a feature in the best way. The vibe is breezy, anarchic, and proudly stupid-smart, the kind of comedy that keeps finding new ways to surprise you with how far it’ll take a joke. It’s not for everyone—if you need realism or subtlety, you may bounce off—but if you enjoy gleefully dumb satire delivered with conviction, this is a wonderfully enjoyable oddball worth your time.
“RRRrrrr!!!” is aiming for broad, prehistoric slapstick—a deliberately dumb, cartoonish whodunit where the jokes come from caveman logic, silly disguises, and running gags about hair and shampoo. The problem is that the humor is aggressively repetitive and often lands with a thud, so what’s meant to feel anarchic can start to feel like the same sketch stretched far past its natural lifespan. If you don’t enjoy loud, intentionally idiotic French farce that prioritizes randomness over plot coherence, this will likely feel like a waste of your time. That said, the cast commits and there are a few absurd visual bits that might work if you’re in the mood for something brain-off and relentlessly goofy.
