EuroTrip (2004)
When Scott learns that his longtime cyber-buddy from Berlin is a gorgeous young woman, he and his friends embark on a trip across Europe.
What people think about EuroTrip
EuroTrip is the kind of early-2000s comedy that commits so hard to being outrageous that you can’t help but admire its confidence: it’s loud, fast, and packed with set pieces that keep topping themselves as the friends ricochet from one European misadventure to the next. Jeff Schaffer stages the trip like a gauntlet of escalating bad decisions—robberies, cultural misunderstandings, and gloriously dumb detours—so the movie rarely pauses long enough for you to overthink the absurdity. Beneath the crude jokes and shameless irreverence, there’s a surprisingly sweet, simple engine driving it forward: a guy trying to fix a mistake, with his friends turning the journey into a rolling carnival of chaos. It’s absolutely not for anyone allergic to nudity, raunch, and relentless lowbrow humor, but if you’re in the mood for a high-energy, no-apologies laugh machine, this one delivers.
EuroTrip is trying to be a fast, dumb, anything-goes road comedy about post–high school freedom, horny optimism, and the chaos of chasing a crush across Europe. When it’s on, it delivers a few genuinely memorable set pieces and an energetic, breezy pace that keeps the runtime moving. But the humor leans hard on early-2000s crudeness—gratuitous nudity, bathroom jokes, and broad national stereotypes—so if you want clever writing or characters who feel like more than cartoons, this will test your patience. If you’re comfortable with very explicit sex jokes, frequent strong language, and a plot that’s basically an excuse to bounce from one outrageous bit to the next, it can be a guilty-pleasure watch; otherwise, it’ll feel like a loud, dated postcard of comedy that’s not trying to grow up.
