Walking Tall (2004)

Walking Tall is the kind of lean, punchy action thriller that knows exactly what it is: a modern-day small-town western where one decent man decides the rules still matter. Kevin Bray keeps the engine running hot, and Dwayne Johnson’s sheer presence does most of the heavy lifting—he’s charismatic, convincing, and refreshingly direct as a hero who doesn’t posture so much as act. The vibe is gritty but crowd-pleasing, with bruising fights, a streak of righteous anger, and just enough humor and camaraderie (thanks to Johnny Knoxville) to keep it from drowning in darkness. It’s not for viewers who want moral ambiguity or a slow-burn drama, but if you’re on the fence and craving a brisk, muscular crowd-pleaser that gets in, hits hard, and gets out, this one delivers.
