Danny Deckchair is clearly aiming for a whimsical, feel-good escape story: an ordinary bloke literally floating out of a dead-end life and into a sweeter, small-town romance. The problem is that once the brilliant balloon-chair hook gets him back on the ground, the film settles into a fairly standard rom-com groove, with pacing that sags and a tone that can’t decide whether it wants to be quirky satire or gentle comfort viewing. If you need sharp surprises, real emotional depth, or a consistently clever comedic edge, this may feel pleasant but lightweight and a bit predictable.
