11:14 (2004)
Tells the seemingly random yet vitally connected story of a set of incidents that all converge one evening at 11:14pm. The story follows the chain of events of five different characters and five different storylines that all converge to tell the story of murder and deceit.
What people think about 11:14
11:14 is the kind of wickedly clever thriller-comedy that makes you lean forward as the puzzle clicks into place, turning one ordinary night into a chain reaction of bad decisions and worse luck. Director Greg Marcks keeps the storytelling tight and zippy, bouncing between viewpoints with a confident rhythm that rewards your attention without ever feeling like homework. The tone is pitch-black and sharply funny—crime-movie tension undercut by the absurdity of how quickly people will lie, panic, and improvise their way into deeper trouble—and the cast (especially Rachael Leigh Cook, Ben Foster, and Clark Gregg) sells every frantic beat. Fair warning: it’s gleefully nasty and very R-rated, so if you don’t like your laughs served with gore and moral grime, this one won’t be your midnight snack.
11:14 is clearly aiming for that slick, clockwork “everything connects” crime-comedy thrill ride, where the fun is watching five storylines snap into place around one specific minute. When it works, it’s punchy, darkly funny, and impressively committed to escalating bad decisions into full-blown chaos, with a few memorable performances keeping the energy up. But if you need characters you can actually care about or a payoff that feels bigger than the mechanics of the puzzle, this can come off like a clever trick that doesn’t add up to much once the pieces fit. Also, it’s very R-rated in a blunt, gross-out way—if grisly car-crash injuries and shock humor aren’t your thing, this won’t be a good use of your time.
