The Whole Ten Yards (2004)

The Whole Ten Yards is the kind of crime-comedy sequel that leans into its own silliness, letting charming stars play in a sandbox of sunny locations, petty grudges, and looming mob trouble. Bruce Willis has real fun flipping his tough-guy image into domesticated deadpan, while Matthew Perry’s frantic, put-upon energy keeps the movie bouncing even when the plot is happily convoluted. The vibe is breezy and mischievous—more caper than thriller—built on double-crosses, mistaken confidence, and the pleasure of watching familiar faces try to outwit people with guns. It won’t convert you if you need razor-sharp writing or high stakes, but if you’re on the fence and want an easy, star-powered romp with a few genuinely bright comic moments, it’s a perfectly serviceable good time.

The Whole Ten Yards is clearly trying to recapture the breezy, odd-couple charm of the first film by mixing hitman hijinks with domestic comedy and a kidnapping caper. The problem is it feels like a sequel made because everyone was available, not because anyone had a sharp new idea—most of the jokes land with a thud, the plot gets busy without getting clever, and the pacing drags when it should be snapping. If you loved the original for its wit and surprise, this one may feel like a recycled sketch stretched to feature length.
