Pokémon 4Ever feels like a breath of woodland air in the series: a gentler, more atmospheric adventure that lets the forest itself become a kind of living character, full of hush, wonder, and suddenly urgent danger. The time-travel hook isn’t used for puzzle-box gimmicks so much as for warmth and mystery, giving Ash’s familiar heroics a fresh emotional angle and a new companion whose presence deepens the story’s sense of fate and friendship. When the threat arrives, it’s sleekly sci-fi and satisfyingly menacing, pushing the animation into some striking, high-stakes imagery without losing that family-friendly heart. If you’re allergic to Pokémon’s formula or want something radically different, it may still feel comfortingly predictable—but if you’re on the fence, this is one of the sequels that earns your attention by being sincerely entertaining and quietly magical.

Pokémon 4Ever is clearly aiming for a heartfelt, eco-fable adventure with a time-travel hook, a cute Mythical Pokémon at the center, and just enough menace to feel “bigger than an episode.” The problem is it plays incredibly safe: the plot beats are predictable, the dialogue is boilerplate, and the pacing lurches between “run to the next set piece” and “pause for a lesson,” so the emotion doesn’t always land. If you’re not already invested in Ash and the gang, it can feel like a feature-length commercial for Celebi with a villain who’s more loud than interesting. Still, the forest visuals and creature designs have charm, and younger fans or dedicated Pokémon completists will likely enjoy the straightforward stakes and familiar comfort-food formula.
