Framed (2002)

Framed is the kind of tight, made-for-TV thriller that finds its electricity not in explosions, but in a locked-room battle of wits where every pause feels like a move on a chessboard. Rob Lowe’s weary-but-capable detective and Sam Neill’s slippery fugitive spark off each other with the delicious tension of two men convinced they’re the smartest person in the room, and the film keeps rewarding your attention with turns that feel earned rather than gimmicky. Director Daniel Petrie Jr. keeps the pace brisk and the mood cool and suspenseful, letting the interrogation-room pressure build until you’re leaning in, second-guessing everyone. If you need nonstop action you may find it a little talkier than expected, but if you enjoy cerebral cat-and-mouse crime stories where everybody’s conning everybody else, this one is an easy recommendation.

That said, Neill brings a welcome edge and the central face-off is watchable enough if you’re in the mood for a contained, old-school procedural with modest stakes.
