All About the Benjamins (2002)
Bounty hunter Bucum Jackson teams with the small-time con artist, Reggie Wright, that he is pursuing, in an attempt to locate a missing stash of diamonds and a lottery ticket worth millions of dollars. Bucum and Reggie find themselves in a race to the finish as they embark on an unlikely partnership that should -- when all is said and done -- prove beneficial to them both.
What people think about All About the Benjamins
All About the Benjamins is the kind of swaggering, sunlit crime-comedy that runs on pure momentum: loud, flashy, and happily unbothered by restraint, with set pieces that pop and a pace that rarely lets you catch your breath. The real draw is the push-pull chemistry between Ice Cube’s no-nonsense bounty hunter and Mike Epps’ slippery con man, a mismatched duo whose bickering and begrudging teamwork give the movie its spark. Kevin Bray stages the chaos with a music-video sheen and a playful sense of escalation, while Eva Mendes adds a welcome jolt of charisma to the mix. It won’t convert you if you’re allergic to early-2000s attitude or broad comedy, but if you want an energetic, unapologetically fun chase through scams, bullets, and bad decisions, it delivers.
All About the Benjamins is trying to be a loud, swaggering buddy action-comedy where a straight-ahead bounty hunter and a slippery con man bicker their way through a diamond-and-lottery chase. When it works, it’s mostly on the strength of Ice Cube’s tough-guy deadpan and Mike Epps’ frantic energy, plus a few breezy early-2000s Miami vibes. The problem is the movie leans on a very familiar formula and then muddies it with choppy pacing, messy plotting, and action beats that can feel more loud than logical. If you’re sensitive to mean-spirited or gratuitous violence mixed with comedy, or you need tight writing to stay engaged, this will likely test your patience; if you just want noisy banter and chaotic set pieces without overthinking it, you might get enough mileage out of it.
