Not Another Teen Movie (2001)

Not Another Teen Movie is special because it doesn’t just poke fun at teen-movie clichés—it gleefully detonates them, with a wickedly smart sense of timing and a commitment to going way, way too far. The vibe is loud, shameless, and knowingly trashy, the kind of spoof that keeps a straight face just long enough to make the punchlines land harder, and Chris Evans, Chyler Leigh, and Jaime Pressly play it with more comic conviction than the premise has any right to deserve. If you’ve absorbed even a handful of ’80s and ’90s high-school romances, makeover myths, and prom-night melodrama, you’ll feel the movie’s affectionate malice in every scene. It’s definitely not for anyone allergic to R-rated raunch, crude language, and cartoonish gore, but if you’re in the mood for big laughs and zero dignity, it’s a riot.

Not Another Teen Movie is trying to be a rapid-fire, anything-goes parody of ’80s and ’90s high-school romances, cramming in recognizable tropes and then smashing them with shock comedy. When it works, it’s because the cast commits (Chris Evans in particular) and the movie has a few genuinely clever visual gags for people who know the films it’s mocking. But a lot of it leans hard on gross-out bits, nudity, and “how far can we push this” crassness, which can feel less like sharp satire and more like a dare that goes on too long. If you don’t enjoy raunchy R-rated humor or you want parody with real wit instead of sheer volume, this will likely feel like a waste of your time.
