Vampires: Los Muertos (2002)

Vampires: Los Muertos is the kind of lean, hard-driving sequel that surprises you by actually knowing how to have fun: it trades bloat for momentum, drops you into sunbaked Mexico, and keeps the action snapping like a bullwhip. Tommy Lee Wallace directs with a pulpy confidence, balancing gritty horror beats with a scrappy, on-the-road thriller vibe, and he gives the vampires a feral, fast-moving menace that plays well in cramped rooms and wide-open dust. Jon Bon Jovi makes Derek Bliss a satisfyingly tough, world-weary hunter—more attitude than heroics—anchoring the movie with a steadiness that’s better than the premise might lead you to expect. If you want elegant mythology or subtle scares, this isn’t that; but if you’re craving a brisk, bloody, direct-to-video gem that delivers exactly what its title promises, it’s an easy watch.
