The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (2002)

Tom Hulce brings a warm sincerity back to Quasi, and Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Madellaine adds a surprisingly tender counterpoint that makes the story feel like a small, heartfelt victory for kindness. It won’t satisfy viewers hoping for the original’s operatic weight, but if you want a cozy, upbeat Disney sequel that’s easy to watch and genuinely rooted in compassion, this one lands its charm.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame II is clearly trying to give Quasimodo a lighter, kid-friendlier romantic follow-up and a simple “good heart beats bad guy” adventure set around a circus heist. The problem is it feels like a direct-to-video afterthought: the story is painfully predictable, the villain is cartoonish in the least interesting way, and the animation and pacing don’t have the weight or polish that made the original resonate.
